Preventing Roof Ice Dams

Preventing roof ice dams starts with the snow on your roof.In most cases it's not your gutter,or lack of insulation in the house.Sometimes the sun on the south side of the house can cause it...but as a general rule lets just stick with the freshly fallen snow on your roof.

To prevent roof ice dams you have to remove the snow soon as possible,so it's easier to work with.If it's melting caused by the southern exposure of the sun on the house,do that side first, and give it priority.

The more snow you get off your roof,is all the more less potential for gutter ice dams to start.

The valley areas on the house are also a crucial area you must rid the snow from, because ice dams just love a corner, and enclaved area on the house where they can hang out,and hanging out is just what they do adding weight to your gutters.

So preventing roof ice dams starts with first removing the snow from your roof.
