Drifted Snow On The Roof

Drifted snow on the roof can be a real back breaker to remove.

It's heavy, compacted, and when using a snow rake to remove it,makes it feel like you're using a straw.

After a big snowstorm things like this happen. There is nothing you can do to prevent it,unless you can control which way the wind blows.

My advice to you is to just chip away at it,removing small bites at a time.

Most people try to rush things, and try to remove as big as bites from it as possible. That's not good for you,or for the roof rake for that matter.

Taking your time, and removing it properly will be so much easier.

When all said and done, that snow drift will be no more than a storm in a tea cup.

Drifted snow on roofs is part of winter.Just dont let drifted snow overwhelm you.The hardest part is dwelling on it it.Just take action and think about something else when removing packed snow. You'll be glad you did.

Roof Snow Rake

I agree that a good item for removing snow from roof is a good roof snow rake.

I have an 18 foot snow rake that can be made into a 6 foot snow rake for the garage.I use a ladder and can get up higher on the roof, and having it shorter gives me more brute strength for removing heavy snow from roofs.

My uncle picked up a good roof snow rake from amazon last winter, and he's been using it ever since.Pretty much all snow rakes are the same,so where ever a person shops is as good as bet as any when it comes to buying one.

Heavy Snow On Roofs

Heavy snow of roofs is not good for the structure. As I said earlier snow laoding is a term used to describe the strength on what a roof can withstand.

Heavy snow on roofs also makes a heavy day of hard work when it comes to removing it.

Just take it a bite at a time, and let the snow glide down off the roof when possible. If you have to pull the snow down with a roof rake, then please do a little section at a time.It will pay off in the long run,and not make the drifted snow seem so much as a heavy duty chore.

Dont wait till the end of winter to remove snow from your roof,or wait to buy a roof rake just after a major snowstorm.Be ready, and be prepared for the worse.

Snow Loading

Snow Loading is the weight force put on a roofs from snow that has accumulated over time.It becomes heavier over time, and puts pressure on the roof.

All roofs are built differently, and roofs are built according to the area they are.A roof in the mountains of Montana might be built stronger to withstand the weight of snow.A house built in Georgia may not be able to hold the amount of snow comapred to that of the house in Monatana.

So instead of getting into the details of snow loading.Lets just focus on making it a regular chore to remove that snow off the roof, before it does accumalate into a heavy slab of ice,and cause your roof stress.

Removing Snow From Roofs

Removing snow from roofs can be an easier task when knowing the right procedures, and having the right tools to to the job.

I know it's something we all dread, and can really be a physicaly draining experience. We're all lucky we do not have to do this 12 months out of the year. The reason why alot of us get a sore back is because of that very reason.

Following the right steps while removing snow from roofs can save you that sore back in the morning.

Are you wondering what the right size roof rake is for you?

It depends on alot of different factors.Your height, your strenght, and most obviously the height of your roof.

A ladder also plays in a factor because every roof is different, and every individual is different in height & stature. Some houses you dont need a ladder when it comes to removing snow from the roof.

I recommend a 3 piece connectable roof rake.It can be adjusted to the size that works more perfectly for the job.In other words you dont need a 36 foot snow rake to remove snow from a single stall garage roof, that's only 16 feet in height.

It would be very difficult performing that task with the rake so long in lenght.

With an adjustable roof rake a person has to remove an extention pole,or add a pole all depending on the height of the structure you're removing snow from.

So keep in mind that an adjustable roof rake , and small step ladder are pretty much a must for removing snow from roofs.

Removing Snow From Your Roof

Removing snow from your roof has hidden dangers you should always be aware of.It's always a good idea to remind yourself where the electical lines come into the house. When remvoving snow from your roof it's also a good idea to check the weather. It's bad practice to do this on a very windy day,or when possible wind gusts can cause an accident.

The main tools a person usually uses is a step ladder to give you some height,in order to get up high as you can while removing snow from the roof. It's also a good idea to have a heavy duty scoop shovel to remove the snow that falls from the roof.It compacts considerably, and a push shovel is usually obsolete while trying to remove it from the sidewalk.

Make sure you dress warm, and if possible wear a good set of warm gloves while removing snow from your roof.Gloves give a better grip on the roof rake while maneuvering it,and prevents more accidents than wearing mittens.

Preventing Roof Ice Dams

Preventing roof ice dams starts with the snow on your roof.In most cases it's not your gutter,or lack of insulation in the house.Sometimes the sun on the south side of the house can cause it...but as a general rule lets just stick with the freshly fallen snow on your roof.

To prevent roof ice dams you have to remove the snow soon as possible,so it's easier to work with.If it's melting caused by the southern exposure of the sun on the house,do that side first, and give it priority.

The more snow you get off your roof,is all the more less potential for gutter ice dams to start.

The valley areas on the house are also a crucial area you must rid the snow from, because ice dams just love a corner, and enclaved area on the house where they can hang out,and hanging out is just what they do adding weight to your gutters.

So preventing roof ice dams starts with first removing the snow from your roof.

Roof Rake Light Weight

The tip of the day is a roof rake light weight in design. The bigger it is,will be all the more floppy it will be,and have gusts of wind hamper your snow roof shoveling.

Like I said earlier,a light weight roof rake will make the difference between shoveling roof snow like night & day.

Removing snow from roofs to prevent ice dams is not an easy job.So make sure you have a light weight snow removal tool. It'll make the job so much easier. All roofs are different, and the main thing is to find the right tool for the job.

Being stealth, and having lightweight snow tools will save you alot of time when doing this back breaking work.

Roof Roof

Last winter the dog went roof roof after a snow fall.I think it was his way of reminding me to get my ladder out,and shovel the roof.

So I went roof roof back, and got my big butt off the couch to call the kid next door if he was interested in roof shoveling. His mother said he's not available,so I had to do this chore myself.

My dog taught me the most important roof shoveling tricks. One was to address the snow on the roof, and not letting it turn into a heavy sheet of ice up there, and potentiallly destroying my gutters.

So don't be like me,and have your dog roof roof at you, reminding you that you have to remove snow from roofs. He'll make you feel like an idiot, and not to mention lazy.

Snow Roof Removal

Snow Roof Removal has cause alot of unexpected trips to the hospital. It's a good idea not to try anymore than what your body is capable of moving, because it can result is the good old fashioned backache.Using muscles we only use once a year, can tend to do that to a person. No matter what there age is.

A good light weight snow rake is what I recommend. You want it light weight as possible, and to take little bites at a time off the roof. It's easier, safer, and you'll be thankful.Moving to much at one time, being in a rush to get it done is a sure way to end up with a backache. So think some on what's the right way for you to snow roof that white stuff on the roof.

Please believe a light snow rake razor finished is the best, and most safest way to remove snow.

Roof Snow Is Heavy At Times

Roof snow can be extremely heavy at times, and especially when the temperature is above 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Even Zeus above had a roof razor snow blade to shave with in the morning after a large snowfall.I assure you it was sharper than a Gillete Trac II Plus..because removing ice dams from a roof needs a razor sharp roof rake.

Most of us ponder on roof shoveling because it is extremely hard work at times, and it comes down to how much snow, and how wet it is.

The most important thing is to at least get the bottom 2-3 feet off a roof,so it melts more efficiently, and helps to some degree not making an ice dam near the gutters.

It's maybe not a bad idea removing the gutters all together in the fall, and replacing them in early spring.I know that not an option for alot of us,but it's an otion some do,to prevent ice dams.

I'll be discussing roof snow in a variety of ways in this blog.
